First Sleepover

So Brent and I did it. We let Eli spend his first night away from home on New Year's Eve. We were going back and forth on it, but then realized it had been 3 months since we had a date night. So we let Mimaw and Papaw (Brent's parents) have the honor of his first night away. I was more concerned for them than Eli. If you have read my previous post, Eli one day decided sleep is overrated and still maintains the same attitude.

So we dropped him off at 6:00pm for us to enjoy some adult time. We went to eat and then a friend's house. Even though we were without children the topic dominated our conversations - dirty diapers, steaming vegetables, sitting up, spitting up, shots, etc.

At 9:45pm we got the phone call - Eli's upset. In Terri's words "Baby Chernobyl meltdown 30 minutes before bed". Thankfully it was nothing a bottle couldn't solve and then he slept until 5:30am.
Thanks for letting us have a night out!

Happy New Year!

I will just post pictures because I know that's what everyone wants to see. Below is a small highlight. THANK YOU everyone for making this a great first Christmas for our new family. I love you all!

Christmas at Mia's house. He had his own tree!

We were only out long enough to snap the photo - don't worry!

Surprise!

This Sunday was my mom's 50th birthday so we did it up in style with a surprise birthday brunch and steak dinner.

The whole year I knew I wanted to do something special for her. She has done so much for us and this is a big birthday. I had thought about a surprise dinner with friends and family, just our little family, trying to rent out a place, etc. It's hard to plan a surprise when you have someone that is very involved in your life. I just knew if we picked a restaurant for dinner she would say "I had that last week. Let's go somewhere else." So we planned a brunch at my house while she was under the impression she was coming over to go shopping.

I had all of my family come over with breakfast goodies to enjoy food, family and celebrate. I think it went over well. We had more than enough food - AND I think my mom was genuinely surprised. Everyone hid then when my mom walked in they jumped out with confetti poppers and yelled "Happy Birthday"

We ended the night with a delicious meal at Ruth Chris steakhouse. YUMMY!

Thank you mom for being loving, supporting, a fighter, and leader. Here's to another 50 years ;)!

No Sleep Till . . .

So we let Eli stay up way past his bedtime one night last week so he could play with the adults and his friend Audrey - what a mistake! We have been paying for it ever since. I am now convinced he thinks that all the fun happens after he goes to bed and doesn't want to miss out on anything. He has been waking up 1-2 times a night! We were in such a good routine and I'm not sure what happened. I didn't think we would pay the price for some late night "baby partying". Brent is on the verge of letting him "cry it out", but I can't do it. He would have to deal with 2 people crying.

Eli's other new friend he made the last 2 weeks is Jewels - our dog. For the first 4 months of Eli's life he has not cared for the dogs, but that has all changed. He tracks her with his eyes, reaches out to pet her and will only enjoy tummy time if he can see her. At this point she is perfect height for nose to nose contact. Jewels wants to be wherever we are. She watches Eli take a bath, helps me put him to sleep, sits on the couch next to us, lays on the floor during playtime, etc. Don't be fooled -- it's not because Jewels loves Eli. Jewels was my baby for the past 8 years. I think she is a little jealous, but don't worry we still make time for her and Tawny.

It's Santa!

In the great words of Will Ferrell from the movie Elf "Santa! Santa's coming! I know him! I know him!"

Eli and I made a trip to visit Santa at the mall with my mom, aunt Tricia and baby cousin Ashlynn. Surprisingly there was no line and the Santa looked like, well, Santa. We were trying to get a picture of Ashlynn and Eli together, but Ashlynn would have none of it. Poor baby girl was scared to death. My aunt captured a really funny picture on her camera. I'm sure that will be Eli next year.

It's a bad angle for Eli. He looks like a fatty baby, but he's not! We are going to make a second trip later this month with Colton. I can't wait -- at this age neither one of them know stranger danger.

4 Months and More

Life is pretty busy at the Fisher house. We just hosted our first Thanksgiving, Brent has been traveling, my work has significantly picked up, and Christmas is only a few weeks away! Our current philosophy is if you don't stop moving then you can't be tired

.

Our sweet Eli did a great job at Thanksgiving. He let everyone hold him, smiled, and played. The next day he was very tired. He took a 3 hour nap in the middle of the day and still went to bed at 7:30 that night. Holidays are busy for babies too!

We went to the pediatrician for his 4 month check today. He is still a tall and skinny dude. He has grown 2 inches and gained 3 lbs in the last 2 months. Below are his statistics:

Weight: 15.5 lbs- 49%
Height: 26.5 inches - 88%
Head: 41.5 cm - 22%

One year ago. . .

On this day one year ago at 7:00am Brent and I stared at three pregnancy test all confirming a baby was on the way! Whew, that was a big day!

Practicing standing!

Yes, that is a smile during tummy time!
