As many of you know, Brent works from home and I now have the opportunity to work from home as well. I love it because it gives me the opportunity to have time with Eli but still be in the "business" world.














Brent has set a great example for working from home. He goes upstairs to his office everyday from 8:00 - 6:30. He helps me to be accountable and actually WORK from home. If he wasn't here I probably would set up downstairs with the TV on.

So here is a typical day at Fisher Enterprise:














If I have to leave the "corporate" office in Keller I wake up at 5:30am to get myself and Eli ready to be at Grandma or Mia's house by 7:45am. From there I make my way to South Fort Worth and return to pick Eli up around 2:00. I finish my day at home and shut the laptop down by 4:00.

The days I stay at home are even more fun. We all get up around 7:00 and have an early morning meeting over coffee. From there Eli is usually in his "office" at 8:30ish working on sleeping, smiling, growing and other big projects babies do.
















I make a mad rush of phone calls and emails until 11:00 when we take an extended lunch until 1:00. The three of us eat lunch together (when we can), play on the activity mat, stare at the ceiling fan or wall clock and sing songs.

Eli usually falls asleep again until 3:30 and I make calls, respond to emails and what every employee with Internet access does -- goof off.

Working from home is a huge blessing and I do not want to take it for granted.

Brent and I prayed for many months on how to make this work and the Lord answered by giving us a very mellow baby that is happy, family that is willing and ready to help us whenever needed and flexibility with both jobs to work around a little one's schedule.

Big Week!

It was a big week for Eli. We tried to go to church on Sunday. We made it out early and arrived at our connection class/Sunday school class on time. I can't believe it! Eli slept up until the lesson started. I guess he was very interested in hearing God's word. . . kinda. We ended up sitting outside of the classroom staring at the fluorescent lights. I like to think he wanted to meditate and take some quiet time in prayer outside of the group.

Tuesday we started our LifeGroups back at our house. Eli slept for the most part and only occasionally added to the discussion. I read the chapter out loud to him so he was up to speed!

Thursday was the hardest day. We went back to the doctor for his 1 month check-up. This time he received his first shot. It was so sad, but he was brave. Poor little man was falling asleep only to be rudely awakened by a prick in the leg. The look of shock and pain on his face was awful. I don't know what I will do next time at his 2 month. He has to get 4 shots :(

Here are his stats at 5 weeks:
Height: 23.25 inches, 87% -- 1.25 inches taller

Weight: 10 lbs 1oz, 47% - 1 lbs 7oz more

He is a growing boy!

Best Birthday present

Saturday was my 28th birthday and this is the way I was able to spend my morning.

The best present - a sweet smile from Eli looking up at me.

Inherited Trait from Dad

So many of you know that Brent occasionally has "Dream Screams". This is where in the middle of the night Brent will let out a blood curdling scream while still asleep. This is very scary for a newlywed, but now as a seasoned married couple I have learned to live with it and try to wake Brent up without getting an accidental slap to the face or kick in the shin. I'll leave those stories for another post.

I think Eli has picked up this trait. Today, Eli let out a "Dream Scream". It was one single loud cry. I went over to look at him and he was still in deep sleep -- rhythmic breathing, relaxed limbs, eyes closed. I thought it was very strange and stood there for a few minutes waiting for him to start waking, but nothing. I guess time will tell if this was a random occurrence or if one day Eli will freak out his new wife too.

You Know You're a Parent When . . .

Today Eli turns 3 weeks. I can't believe how fast time is flying. It's like he has always been here and I hardly remember what it was like without him. With that being said, there are definitely times I do realize how much our life has changed.

1. It now takes 2 full hours to get Eli and myself half-way presentable to go in public. Then I only have about an hour to spend in public!
2. I feel refreshed and rejuvenated on 4 straight hours of sleep
3. I have always liked big purses but now I have the biggest one ever -- a diaper bag
4. My backseat is no longer usable for clients. That is of course if they don't mind a big carseat base and jungle animal mirror.
5. I go 3-4 days between trips in a car or sometimes even going outside
6. Spit-up, pee, and other bodily functions no longer bother me
7. We talk to our parents almost every day.
8. I think the biggest change is our weekends. I will give you a brief run-down of this past Friday and Saturday night.
   

Friday Night:

• We had a meal delivered to our house -- not from Papa John's or China Express. Thanks Brian and Cassie!
• We attempted to watch a movie but ended up watching a little baby make faces
• Gave Eli his first bath -- he did not enjoy it. See the pictures below!
  

Saturday:

• We slept in until 7:00am.
• Went on a walk with the whole family -- Brent, myself, Eli, Jewels and Tawny. It was an adventure!
• Played with Eli and ignored all the chores piling up. Brent did mow the backyard!
• We both attempted to sit by the pool. Attempted key word -- Eli would not stay down, but it gave us a chance to use the baby monitors.
• Another great meal delivered to us (thanks Justin and Courtney) - again not by Domino's, a teenager at a drive-thru or a weird concoction from our pantry.
• In bed by 9:30pm

Of course the positives outweigh the negatives and all the changes are for the better!

A Week of Firsts

So week two down and we are moving forward to week 3 at lightening speed! This week brought many "firsts" for our sweet little Eli.

1. He spent his first night in a hotel while mommy and daddy had their first night out. This past Saturday, Brent and I had our 10 year high school reunion. It is hard to believe that 10 years have passed, but we wanted to see some of our old friends. We rented a hotel room downtown Fort Worth and Mia (my mom) watched him as we snuck out for a few hours to Reatta. Our reunion was fun, but Facebook does take some of the surprise out of things. I wish I had pictures but somehow I managed to leave without taking 1 picture.

2. Eli's first bottle. I didn't want to leave my mom with a baby that might wake up and decide he's starving. So Brent earlier in the week gave him his first bottle to see if he would take. It was NO problem. Food is food to Eli no matter the source. What a huge blessing! Since then he has taken a bottle from his Mia and Mamaw.

3. First all-nighter. Eli was having some tummy trouble on Sunday night/Monday morning so poor guy was up from 11pm - 6am. He would sleep for about an hour only to wake up to tummy rumblings. We gave him Mylicon, tummy massages, and lots of love and words of encouragement as the night went through. Brent being the sweet husband and father took Eli at 4:00am for several hours so I could get some much needed sleep. It was a long day for Brent since he is back at work and can't nap.

4. First outing alone as mother and son. After an all-nighter, Monday we had a busy morning with doctor appointments. I was very nervous about taking him out alone since he was now exhausted and having "problems". Nevertheless, we braved the public and I prayed we would not have a first mother and son breakdown in public. Eli as always was on his best behavior and slept the entire time -- what a relief.

5. First nap in the crib. He sleeps in his bassinet, but I also can't wait to use the crib. All these toys and new things are fun for Brent and I too. He likes to sleep with his arms out or one behind his head.

6. First Photoshoot. We had our newborn session last Friday. Here is a link to the blog with a few preview pictures. He already has his "Blue Steel" look down. I can't wait to see the rest!
